As Keeper Jill mentioned we had our annual AAZK Rummage Sale on May 5th. This year I baked dog treats to sell.
They were dog tested and approved. Below is the receipe from
“The Ultimate Dog Treat Cookbook”
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup quick oats
1/2 cup roasted, unsalted sunflower seeds
1/2 cup grated carrots
1/4 cup finely diced celery
1/4 finely chopped broccoli
1/4 cup finely diced red or yellow bell pepper (no seeds)
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup water
(I altered this a bit- I used whole wheat flour, diced the carrots, and added extra celery and broccoli instead of using bell peppers- just to use what I already had at home)
Preheat the over to 350 degrees
Mix all the ingredients well. Using your hands, knead the dough for a few minutes
Form the dough into a ball and drop it onto a floured breadboard (I used the counter). Roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick.
Use a 3 inch cookie cutter (I used the mouth part of a small jar) to cut the dough into shapes. Place the cookies on greased cookie sheets.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown
Remove from oven, let cool, store in airtight container- or from crisper treats, turn oven off and return treats on cookie sheet to oven. Leave them in the cooling oven for several hours or overnight to harden.
